Brass fittings and flare nuts.
What is a brass flare nut, and which sizes do you stock?
A flare nut clamps a flared copper tube end onto a male flare fitting or an AC service valve, making a removable, leak-tight joint. Refrigeration Centre stocks forged brass flare nuts from 1/4″ to 3/4″ in boxed quantities. R410A and R32 units use larger 1/2″ and 5/8″ nuts (26 mm and 29 mm across flats) than the older R22 pattern (24 mm and 27 mm), so match the nut to the unit; Refrigeration Centre stocks both the R22 and the R410A/R32 pattern. See flare or brazed joints.
Which brass fitting thread forms do you stock?
Refrigeration Centre stocks brass fittings from 1/8″ to 2″ in five thread forms. Flare (SAE 45°) fittings seal on the flared tube and are used on AC and refrigeration lines, and UNF is the fine thread those flare fittings use. BSP and NPT are pipe threads: BSP is common on British, European and Asian equipment, NPT on American. Tell us the thread and size, or send a photo, and we will confirm what is on the shelf.
How do I identify a UNF, BSP or NPT thread?
Measure the thread’s outside diameter and count threads per inch with a thread gauge. SAE flare fittings use UNF threads — for example 7/16″-20 on a 1/4″ flare, 5/8″-18 on 3/8″, 3/4″-16 on 1/2″ and 7/8″-14 on 5/8″. NPT is tapered with a 60° thread angle; BSP has a 55° angle and comes parallel (BSPP) or tapered (BSPT). When unsure, send a photo of the part next to a ruler.
Do you stock uncommon brass fitting sizes?
Fast-moving sizes are held on the shelf, and less common sizes and threads can be sourced. Send the size, thread and quantity — or a photo of the old part on WhatsApp — and Refrigeration Centre will confirm availability and lead time.
